Prime Air - Amazon's Ultra-fast Drone Delivery Service seeks a Senior Interdisciplinary Systems Engineer. As a Senior Systems Engineer for Prime Air, you'll be at the forefront of revolutionizing the future of delivery through autonomous drone technology. This role puts you at the helm of one of Amazon's most innovative initiatives, where you'll lead the technical development of a sophisticated system that delivers packages to customers in 30 minutes or less using advanced unmanned aerial vehicles. Working across international markets and multiple U.S. locations, you'll shape the future of ultra-fast delivery that is both sustainable and transformative.
In this position, you'll drive the engineering excellence needed to expand Prime Air's capabilities across our drone system, ground infrastructure, and customer experience platforms. You'll collaborate with diverse teams to ensure our autonomous delivery system meets rigorous safety standards while delighting customers with rapid delivery times. As we scale our operations internationally and integrate drone deliveries into Amazon's broader delivery network, you'll play a crucial role in developing and validating the systems that make seamless autonomous delivery possible, from launch through successful package delivery. This is an opportunity to pioneer new solutions in aerospace engineering while directly impacting millions of customers' lives through the magic of flight and technology.
Key job responsibilities
Lead and execute systems engineering processes across the full product development lifecycle from concept through launch and operations.
Drive technical reviews and decision-making across multiple development phases including Requirements Review, Preliminary Design Review, Critical Design Review, and Integration Readiness Review.
Evaluate, develop and deliver solutions for complex interdisciplinary system design problems.
Lead cross-functional collaborations to ensure integration across diverse teams including drone systems, ground operations, regulatory compliance, and customer experience.
Derive and validate system requirements, acceptance criteria and performance specifications.
Conduct technical risk assessments and failure mode identification.
Lead design reviews to evaluate technical options and identify gaps in requirements or designs.
Document and communicate product development decisions to enable reuse across teams.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related technical field.
Experience in systems engineering for complex aerospace, autonomous systems or integrated technical products.
Demonstrated expertise in requirements engineering, system architecture and interface management.
Strong understanding of systems engineering V-model and product development processes.
Experience leading technical reviews and driving decisions across multiple engineering teams.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in Systems Engineering or related field.
Experience with aerospace products, drone or autonomous aircraft systems.
Knowledge of software and hardware certification processes.
Familiarity with regulatory requirements for aerospace, defense or unmanned aircraft systems.
Track record of successful product launches in technology, aerospace/aviation.
