Job Title: Nuclear Energy Optimization Engineer at Danem People Group
Location: Castellina Marittima, Tuscany, Italy
Overview
Lead optimization of energy production, efficiency, and sustainability within nuclear power plants and research facilities, ensuring compliance with NRC, DOE, EPA regulations.
Responsibilities
Optimize reactor energy output, improve plant efficiency, and ensure compliance with regulatory and environmental standards.
Collaborate with nuclear operators, mechanical, electrical engineers and regulatory agencies to enhance performance and reliability.
Analyze and optimize the efficiency of nuclear power generation and thermal energy systems.
Develop strategies to improve energy utilization, reduce waste, and enhance plant performance.
Work with reactor engineers to optimize heat transfer, coolant flow, and turbine efficiency.
Monitor plant performance metrics and conduct energy audits to identify improvement areas.
Ensure compliance with NRC, DOE, and environmental regulations.
Support R&D of new energy technologies, including advanced reactor designs and SMRs.
Assist in plant upgrades, retrofits, and modifications to enhance energy efficiency.
Evaluate alternative energy integration with nuclear power, such as district heating, hydrogen production, and grid resilience.
Conduct risk assessments and cost-benefit analyses for energy efficiency projects.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to improve plant operations.
Develop technical documentation, energy models and presentations for regulatory bodies.
Qualifications
Master’s degree in Energy Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field.
3‑7 years of experience in energy optimization, power generation or nuclear engineering.
PE license, Certified Energy Manager (CEM) or equivalent preferred.
Deep understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer and energy conversion in nuclear systems.
Proficiency in energy modeling software such as RETScreen, MATLAB, Aspen Plus.
Knowledge of NRC, DOE, EPA regulations regarding energy production and environmental impact.
Ability to conduct energy audits, life‑cycle assessments and performance evaluations.
Strong analytical, problem‑solving and communication skills.
High attention to detail and commitment to safety and efficiency.
Project management abilities to meet deadlines in high‑stakes environment.
