Mechanical Systems Designer Responsibilities
Designing, developing, and optimizing mechanical systems and components for nuclear power plants, research reactors, and other applications.
Creating detailed technical drawings and collaborating with engineers and regulatory agencies.
Ensuring designs meet nuclear safety, performance, and regulatory standards.
Using CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CREO) to develop 2D and 3D models, perform mechanical analyses, and support prototype development and testing.
Conducting material selection, stress analysis, and thermal analysis for optimal performance under high‑radiation and high‑temperature conditions.
Adhering to industry regulations and codes, including ASME BPVC, NRC guidelines, and ANSI standards.
Assisting in prototype development and testing, troubleshooting nuclear mechanical systems.
Preparing technical documentation, including design specifications, engineering reports, and BOMs.
Revising designs based on feedback (testing results, manufacturing input, regulatory requirements), maintaining organized design files and version control.
Supporting the product lifecycle management (PLM) process, including design updates and safety improvements.
Candidate Profile
Education: Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, or related field.
Experience: 2–5 years in mechanical design for nuclear applications, power plants, or industrial settings.
Preferred certifications: CSWP, AutoCAD certification, or equivalent.
Proficiency in CAD software: AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CREO.
Knowledge of mechanical design principles for nuclear applications, including material properties and manufacturing processes.
Understanding of nuclear reactor components: cooling systems and radiation shielding.
Familiarity with ASME BPVC, NRC regulations, and ANSI standards for nuclear mechanical design.
Experience with finite element analysis (FEA); CFD for nuclear applications is a plus.
Experience in tribology, seals, and welding.
Strong problem‑solving and analytical abilities.
Effective communication and teamwork skills.
Attention to detail and project management skills; ability to manage multiple projects and meet regulatory deadlines.
Preferred: PhD or advanced engineering degree.
English (written and oral).
Soft skills: passion for engineering, ability to build relationships and influence at all levels.
