Sr. Hardware Engineer - ML Acceleration, Annapurna Labs
AWS Utility Computing (UC) provides product innovations from foundational services such as Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) to continuously released new products that set AWS’s services and features apart in the industry. The Annapurna Labs organization within AWS UC designs silicon and software that accelerates innovation, enabling cloud solutions to solve challenges that were unimaginable a short time ago. As a member of the Machine Learning Acceleration team, you will play a key role in the definition, design, and validation of AWS’s next‑generation ML chips, cards, and server integration.
Responsibilities
Define, design, and validate AWS next‑generation ML chips, cards, and server integration.
Lead design and optimization of hardware in AWS data centers, focusing on PCIe and SerDes topics to create customized platforms that fit within AWS data center’s world‑leading technology.
Provide leadership in the application of new technologies to large‑scale server deployments, continuously delivering a world‑class customer experience.
Maintain high standards for performance, quality, and cost, and constantly seek ways to improve product performance.
Basic Qualifications
Deep knowledge of PCIe interface Gen4 or above, both electrical and functional at the chip and PCB levels.
Deep understanding of transmission line theory, electromagnetics, and their application in SerDes, single‑ended signal, and parallel bus interfaces.
Experience working with ODMs, IP silicon vendors, component suppliers, and internal design teams on cross‑boundary triaging, debugging, and resolving issues.
Hands‑on lab equipment skills (VNA, real‑time scope, sampling scope and accessories) for electrical validation and characterization.
Scripting skills to automate tests, parse logs, and collect data.
Strong technical communication skills (verbal and written) to interface with cross‑functional technical leads within and outside the organization.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with server hardware designs, design validation, production tests, and signal integrity of high‑speed interfaces.
Knowledge of the product development cycle from concept to mass production.
Strong analytical capabilities.
The ability to work independently and drive tasks from start to completion.
Experience working cross‑functionally with software teams to define and implement diagnostics for hardware validation at component, interface, and system levels.
Experience with server (x86 / ARM) design or architecture.

Compensation and Benefits
The base pay for this position ranges from $143,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $247,600/year in our highest geographic market.
