Our MissionWe unleash the potential of organisations through the science of board effectiveness, building better businesses and benefiting society.The RoleBoard Intelligence are looking for a Senior QA Automation Engineer to join our growing team of automation engineers and take a leadership role in driving quality excellence across Board Intelligence. You'll be embedded within a product council as the quality expert, whilst also playing a crucial role in mentoring our team, shaping QA strategy, and continuously improving our testing practices and frameworks.This is a senior individual contributor role where you'll have significant influence and autonomy. You'll be the custodian of quality for your product council, working closely with cross-functional teams from feature conception through to delivery. Beyond your council, you'll be a driving force for quality improvements across the entire QA function championing better processes, evolving our automation frameworks, and helping establish best practices.Main ResponsibilitiesQuality Leadership & StrategyPartner with QA Leadership to help shape QA strategy, standards, and directionLead initiatives to improve our TypeScript/Cypress (Web App) and Java/Appium (Mobile) automation frameworksIdentify and drive adoption of new testing approaches, tools, and methodologiesEstablish and evolve testing standards across the QA teamMentor QA engineers, helping them grow their technical and strategic skillsChampion continuous improvement by consistently identifying better ways of workingTesting & AutomationWrite high-quality automated tests using our TypeScript/Cypress (web) and Java/Appium (mobile) frameworks, contributing new tests regularlyArchitect and implement improvements to our existing test frameworksMaintain and enhance test suite reliability and effectivenessDebug, monitor, and resolve automation pipeline failuresPerform manual testing: ticket verification, test case management, and regression testingLead by example in testing practices, demonstrating what excellence looks likeEmbedded QA Within Your Product CouncilAct as the sole QA representative within your assigned product council for typically a year-long engagementBuild strong relationships and credibility with developers, product managers, and stakeholdersParticipate in refinement sessions from the earliest stages, influencing quality from the startManage stakeholder expectations and communicate quality status clearly and confidentlyHandle multiple concurrent workstreams effectively within your councilExperience & Skills8-10 years of QA experience with previous experience in a senior QA/SDET roleExpertise in test automation with proven experience architecting or significantly improving test frameworksStrong hands-on experience with end-to-end automation frameworks (e.g., Selenium, Cypress, WebDriver, Appium)Demonstrated ability to lead technical initiatives and drive them to completionExperience mentoring and upskilling other QA engineersTrack record of establishing testing standards and best practices within teamsStrong stakeholder management skills with ability to influence and advise at all levelsProven ability to work autonomously and take ownership of complex quality challengesExperience working in Agile environments embedded within product teamsExcellent critical thinking and problem-solving skillsHighly DesirableExperience with TypeScript/Cypress or Java/Appium specificallyAPI and contract testing experienceStrong understanding of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practicesExperience with performance and load testingMobile app testing expertiseUnderstanding of test architecture and design patternsOur Tech StackAutomation frameworks: TypeScript with Cypress (web portal), Java with Appium (mobile apps)Product stack: Ruby on Rails backend, React frontend, some Clojure servicesInfrastructure: Kubernetes across cloud and on-premises datacentres
