Senior Nutrition and Food Systems Officer (Nutrition Integration in Agrifood Systems)

Organizational Setting
FAO's Food and Nutrition Division (ESN) provides technical expertise and normative guidance to support Members' actions to improve access to and consumption of healthy diets. Priorities include data and evidence generation, up-to-date guidance, and the integration of nutrition into agrifood systems policies and actions from production through value chains to consumers.
Reporting Lines
The Senior Nutrition and Food Systems Officer (Nutrition Integration in Agrifood Systems) reports to the Director, ESN.
Technical Focus
Provide leadership in nutrition integration in agrifood systems to support better production, food supply chains and markets for healthy diets. Develop, test and deploy evidence, good practice and guidance across agricultural production, nutritious food value chains, food markets, and SME development. Work with ESN colleagues, other headquarters divisions and FAO Decentralized Offices.
Key Results
Leadership and conceptual thinking for the development and implementation of technical, statistical and analytical frameworks to support the programme of work and related products, projects and services in line with FAO’s Strategic Framework.
Key Functions

Plans, manages or leads highly specialized or multidisciplinary teams; coordinates and/or participates in organization-wide or cross-divisional committees, project teams and working groups; provides technical leadership for networks and policy standard setting bodies.
Analyses global and country requirements and factors to inform the FAO Strategic Framework, Programme of Work, Detailed Work Plans and budgets.
Implements and monitors work programmes involving statistical and analytical frameworks, early warning, long-term plans, tools and indicators, policy models and databases.
Oversees data collection, validation, analysis and reporting to support technical standards, instruments, publications and programme development.
Provides technical and policy advice to Members and technical support to Decentralized Offices.
Plans, organises and participates in capacity development activities and develops related materials and online tools.
Represents the Organization at international meetings, develops partnerships and negotiates agreements with partners.
Leads and/or participates in resource mobilization activities.

Specific Functions

Leads the design and delivery of a programme of work to integrate nutrition in agrifood systems policies and actions, in collaboration with ESN and other divisions and offices.
Manages a technical team, including HR, budget and results planning and management.
Leads activities to consolidate and mobilize latest evidence and good practice on nutrition integration, in collaboration with partners, and contributes to FAO flagship and high-level reports.
Identifies the need for and leads activities to develop normative guidelines and guidance for nutrition integration into agrifood systems.
Contributes to divisional priorities, including resource mobilization and cross-divisional collaboration.
P erforms other related duties as required.

Candidate Assessment and Requirements
Minimum Requirements

Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in nutrition, food and agricultural economics, rural development, food and nutrition policy, public health or other relevant field.
Ten years of relevant experience in designing and implementing efforts to integrate nutrition into agrifood systems, including production, value chains, food environments and/or market development, with emphasis on low- and middle-income contexts.
Working knowledge of English and intermediate knowledge of another official FAO language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish).

Work experience in more than one location or area of work, including field positions.
Experience and knowledge of nutrition policy and programmes for integrating nutrition across agrifood systems.
Experience in planning, implementation and/or research and evaluation of programmes for nutrition integration in actions across agrifood systems.
Demonstrated ability to mobilize resources.
Experience in managing teams and collaborating with partners.
Experience in organizing international meetings, seminars and trainings.
PhD in related fields is highly preferred.
