DescriptionThe Senior Automation Engineer is responsible for analyzing electro-mechanical requirements and establishing concepts, detailed designs, and programs (PLC and Robotic) for a broad scope of automated and integrated systems. This Senior Automation Engineer needs to be a leader, capable of coordinating engineering and design efforts, working within a team, and comfortable being in front of peers and stakeholders leading/conducting meetings. May also oversee multiple projects at once and mentor/inspire other junior engineers and designers.ResponsibilitiesLead projects in the development, improvement, and implementation of automation in mechanical assembly, machining, and inspection process to include design, specification, directing and managing vendors, collaboration with stakeholders, installation and qualification of automated systems and equipmentBecome a trusted source for automated system design, development, and supportDevelop and implement improvements to existing automation in mechanical assembly, machining and inspection processesManage equipment purchase and installationCoordinate projects and required resources for successful implementationWork closely with internal and external customers and vendors to resolve issues and provide technical supportSupport technicians on the factory floor as necessary in the manufacture, build, and validation of systemsDevelop cost and time estimatesPerform system risk assessmentsEnsure designs meet all safety standards and requirementsCreate support documentation (user manuals, prints, schematics, maintenance schedules, etc.)Lead and direct meetings with other team membersManage tooling and gauge design and drawingsProvide training and guidance to all employee levels in the operation and maintenance of new equipmentTroubleshoot and resolve any electro-mechanical related issues remotely and on-site as neededStrive to develop new skills and embrace leading technologiesOther duties as assigned.QualificationsManufacturing Automation Engineer with 8 years’ experience in this fieldBS in Engineering/Electrical/Automation or equivalent experienceLean manufacturing practices (Kanban, Poke-Yoke, JIT, Value Stream Mapping)Tool and fixture design and GD&TStrong Project Management skillsUnderstanding and detailed knowledge of PLC’s, low voltage controls, three phase power distribution, vision systems, electronic sensors, pneumatics, hydraulics and roboticsMachine specification and purchase order writingExcellent teamwork and collaboration capabilitiesDesign and application knowledge of ergonomic and machine safety standardsAutoCAD/SolidWorks/MS Office suiteDisplay excellent written and verbal communication skills to communicate with all stakeholdersAll team members are expected to follow the Code of Conduct to the highest standards as well as to adhere to the Attendance Policy of VT Industries.Physical RequirementsTolerance for sitting and/or standing for long periods of time. Possess finger dexterity to write, type, and use a calculator. Maintain adequate vision to view small print and computer terminal. Ability to speak and hear, walk throughout facilities with occasional light lifting (25 pounds), stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching with hands and arms required.
