Fraunhofer Italia is hiring a research engineer or an applied research scientist at the earliest possible date.Fraunhofer Italia with headquarters in Bolzano (Italy) is hiring a new member for its research group „Robotics & Intelligent Systems Engineering (RISE)”. This group focuses on the development of mechatronic systems, as well as automation technology involving intelligent robots and systems.Are you an engineer or an applied research scientist with interest in robotics, eager to build on and expand your knowledge in exciting applications?If so, apply for this position at Fraunhofer Italia!Necessary qualificationsYou have a MSc or PhD degree in mechatronics/robotics engineering or similar.You have work experience (> 2 years) in robotics including modelling, simulation and control of robotic systems.You have a strong background in autonomous navigation for mobile robots, including planning, localization, perception and related areas.You have strong programming experience in C++, Python and the Robot Operating System (ROS). Knowledge of ROS 2 is a plus.You have basic knowledge of Linux, Git for version control and Docker.You work independently, systematically and have a high degree of commitment, creativity and team spirit.You speak either Italian or German natively and you are fluent in English.You are an EU citizen or have a valid work permit.Preferred qualificationsYou have hands‑on experience working with real robots.Experience with ROS 2 frameworks like Nav2, Moveit2 and Gazebo.Experience with libraries like OpenCV and BT.CPP.Your jobYour main activity will involve the development and the design of advanced robotic systems, for application in the areas of industrial production plants, automation in construction and precision/automated farming.On the one hand, the emphasis will be on the development of application‑oriented concepts and their implementation in cooperation with clients and, on the other hand, on further expanding the institute's scientific know‑how in these areas.As part of an interdisciplinary team, you will work on various research projects at the interface between science and practice, for both public and private clients.
