The Global Forum on Agricultural Research and Innovation (GFAiR) is a voluntary multi‑stakeholder network and movement for change. GFAiR brings together actors from 11 constituencies interested in transforming the Agri‑Food System. With around 1,000 member networks and institutions, GFAiR works collaboratively to shape the future of agriculture and food, supporting sustainable development and engaging millions of people worldwide.
About the Position
On behalf of GFAiR, the Alliance of Bioversity International and the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) is seeking a qualified consultant to strengthen GFAiR’s visibility, coherence, and outreach. The GFAiR Secretariat requires communications support to design, manage, and implement effective communication strategies, tools, and products that meet the needs of both GFAiR and the Global NARS Consortium (GNC).
Responsibilities
Review all messaging used for GFAiR and GNC and recommend core messaging, including tag lines, short descriptions, and long descriptions.
Develop a messaging guideline for GFAiR staff and stakeholders, including gender‑inclusive and partner‑inclusive guidelines.
Promote the usage of these guidelines along with the Branding Guidelines through appropriate channels.
Graphic design and branding: finalize logo options, develop branding guidelines documents, facilitate access to logos and tag lines, train staff, conduct periodic brand compliance reviews, and produce requested graphic designs (PPTs, infographics, briefs, flyers, merchandise).
Write briefs, advocacy documents, and mass media articles; research and write communication material such as policy briefs, success stories, event packages, newsletters, website stories, media releases, and op‑eds.
Identify and engage relevant media channels, craft targeted pitches, and manage GFAiR social media across Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, and other platforms. Develop a social media plan and guidelines covering collective actions and GNC.
Provide social media analytics, benchmarks, trend analyses, and actionable recommendations.
Website management: deliver regular analytics, recommend improvements, assist with implementation, optimize SEO, and review Regional Fora websites and social media as approved.
Ensure all tasks consider GFAiR and Regional Fora as small organizations, prioritizing easy maintenance.
Deliverables
Consolidated communication strategy and six‑month plan – by 30 January 2026.
Monthly content calendars and analytics reports – by the end of each month.
At least two communication products posted on the website and social media every month (combined GFAiR/GNC) – ongoing.
Communication packages for 2–3 key events – delivered per event schedule.
Visual and multimedia materials (infographics, short videos, social media kits) – ongoing, minimum two products per month.
Final report summarizing outputs, lessons learned, and recommendations – by 6 January 2027.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree supplemented by a master’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field.
At least seven years of professional experience in communication roles, preferably in ecosystems, international development, agriculture, or research networks.
Strong expertise in digital communications, social media management, and knowledge product development.
Excellent English writing and editing skills; proficiency in French or Spanish desirable.
Demonstrated ability to work with diverse stakeholders and deliver high‑quality outputs under deadlines.
Skills in visual design, multimedia production, and web content management.
Benefits and Terms of Employment
This is a remote, full‑time 12‑month consultancy. All consultancy fees and conditions will be administered in line with the Alliance approved policy for consultants.
