Descrizione Lavoro

OverviewPre-Doctoral Fellow in Event-Based Camera for Microscopy — Italy. Commitment & contract: collaboration contract, 12 months. Location: Centre for Human Technology, Via Enrico Melen, 83 Bldg. B 16152, Genoa.Step into a world of endless possibilities, together let’s leave something for the future. At IIT, we are committed to advancing human-centered Science and Technology to address the most urgent societal challenges of our era. We foster excellence in both fundamental and applied research, spanning fields such as neuroscience and cognition, humanoid technologies and robotics, artificial intelligence, nanotechnology, and material sciences, offering a truly interdisciplinary scientific experience. Our approach integrates cutting-edge tools and technology, empowering researchers to push the limits of knowledge and innovation. With us, your curiosity will know no bounds. We provide equal employment opportunities and foster diversity in all its forms, creating an inclusive environment. We value the unique experiences, knowledge, backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives of our people. By embracing diversity, we believe science can achieve its fullest potential.THE ROLEYou will be working in a multicultural and multidisciplinary group within the Molecular Microscopy and Spectroscopy Research Unit, coordinated by Dr Giuseppe Vicidomini, who has extensive experience in advanced fluorescence microscopy, from super-resolution imaging to spectroscopy techniques, and related computational analysis techniques. The team brings together physicists, engineers, computer scientists, and biologists, sharing expertise at the intersection of photonics, computational imaging, and life sciences.Unlike conventional cameras that acquire fixed-frame images, event-based cameras output a continuous stream of asynchronous brightness changes at each pixel. This enables ultra-high temporal resolution while reducing redundant data. However, because they do not produce standard intensity images, new image reconstruction strategies are required. In this project, you will integrate an event-based camera into an existing wide-field fluorescence microscope at IIT, acquire the first experimental datasets, and develop algorithms to reconstruct conventional time-series images with the highest temporal resolution from asynchronous event streams. You will also conduct a literature review on the application of event-based cameras to microscopy, acquire fundamental optical knowledge to set up the system, and explore computational approaches to analyse and visualise data.ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTSEnrolled in a Master’s degree in Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, or related disciplines.Programming skills (preferably Python).Strong motivation to learn new experimental and computational techniques.Good command of spoken and written English.ADDITIONAL SKILLSInterest in optics, fluorescence microscopy, or event-based detectors.Interest in optics, fluorescence microscopy, or bio-inspired sensors.Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team.Spirit of innovation and creativity.Good time and priority management.Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a highly interdisciplinary environment.COMPENSATION AND BENEFITSA yearly gross salary up to 25.000,00 €Candidates from abroad or Italian citizens who have carried out scientific research activity permanently abroad and meet specific requirements may be entitled to a deduction from taxable income of up to 90% for 6 to 13 years. Please submit your application using the online form and including a detailed CV, cover letter (outlining motivation, experience, and qualifications, and why our lab), and names and contacts of 2 referees.Application deadline: November 5th, 2025.To discover more about life at IIT, visit the dedicated section here: https://www.iit.it/en/work-at-iitFill in the form below and send your application.I have read and accept the privacy policyI have read and I accept the terms and conditions
