Commitment & contract: collaboration contract, 24 months starting from January/February 2026Step into a world of endless possibilities, together let’s leave something for the future! At IIT, we are committed to advancing human-centered Science and Technology to address the most urgent societal challenges of our era. We foster excellence in both fundamental and applied research, spanning fields such as neuroscience and cognition, humanoid technologies and robotics, artificial intelligence, nanotechnology, and material sciences, offering a truly interdisciplinary scientific experience. Our approach integrates cutting-edge tools and technology, empowering researchers to push the limits of knowledge and innovation. With us, your curiosity will know no bounds. We provide equal employment opportunities and foster diversity in all its forms, creating an inclusive environment. We value the unique experiences, knowledge, backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives of our people. By embracing diversity, we believe science can achieve its fullest potential.THE ROLEYou will be working in a multicultural and multidisciplinary group within the Molecular Microscopy and Spectroscopy Research Unit, coordinated by Dr. Giuseppe Vicidomini, who has extensive experience in the development of advanced photon-resolved laser-scanning microscopy and adaptive imaging systems. The team brings together physicists, engineers, computer scientists, and biologists, sharing expertise at the intersection of photonics, computational imaging, and life sciences. In this role, you will contribute to the development of a smart microscopy platform that integrates event-based detectors, specifically asynchronous read-out single-photon avalanche diode (SPAD) array detectors and neuromorphic cameras, within a multifunctional microscope that combines wide-field and laser-scanning modalities. The aim is to establish a feedback-driven adaptive system in which a wide-field neuromorphic camera continuously monitors large regions of the sample to detect specific events, and the system responds by automatically switching to a laser-scanning modality powered by SPAD arrays to perform photon-resolved microscopy of the selected region of interest.Your work will focus on the optical integration of these advanced detectors, the development of algorithms for real-time image reconstruction and event detection, and the implementation of feedback-control strategies. In addition, you will support the training of PhD students and interns working on related projects, contributing to the growth of the team’s expertise. You will also be expected to publish your findings in scientific journals and present your results at international conferences, ensuring that the outcomes of the research reach the broader scientific community.ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTSA PhD in Physics, Engineering, or related disciplines.Documented experience in optical microscopy, imaging, or related optical systems.Good programming skills (Python or equivalent) and knowledge in image analysis. The ability to properly report, organise, and publish research data.Good command of spoken and written English.ADDITIONAL SKILLSPrevious experience with event-based detectors.Previous experience in smart microscopy.Previous experience with optical system design and integration.High motivation to learn.Spirit of innovation and creativity.Good time and priority management.Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a highly interdisciplinary environment.COMPENSATION AND BENEFITSA yearly gross salary ranging between 35,000.00 € and 40,000.00 €Private health care coverage, depending on your role and contractCandidates from abroad or Italian citizens who have carried out scientific research activity permanently abroad and meet specific requirements may be entitled to a deduction from taxable income of up to 90% for 6 to 13 years. Please submit your application using the online form and including a detailed CV, cover letter (outlining motivation, experience, and qualifications, and why our lab), and names and contacts of 2 referees.Fill in the form below and send your application.I have read and accept the privacy policyI have read and I accept the terms and conditions
