Post doc in in electronics for smart implantsPost doc in in electronics for smart implantsItalyCommitment & contract: 2 years, temporary contractLocation: Center for Human Technologies (CHT), Genova (GE)Step into a world of endless possibilities, together let’s leave something for the future! At IIT, we are committed to advancing human-centered Science and Technology to address the most urgent societal challenges of our era. We foster excellence in both fundamental and applied research, spanning fields such as neuroscience and cognition, humanoid technologies and robotics, artificial intelligence, nanotechnology, and material sciences, offering a truly interdisciplinary scientific experience. Our approach integrates cutting-edge tools and technology, empowering researchers to push the limits of knowledge and innovation. With us, your curiosity will know no bounds. We provide equal employment opportunities and fostering diversity in all its forms, creating an inclusive environment. We value the unique experiences, knowledge, backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives of our people. By embracing diversity, we believe science can achieve its fullest potential.THE ROLEYou’d be working in a multicultural and multi-disciplinary group, where expert electronic engineers, material scientists, physicists and chemists collaborate, each with their own expertise, to carry out common research. The research group is led by Dr. Marco Crepaldi, who has extensive experience in the design of electronic systems for research purposes. The research work will be conducted in cooperation with Dr. Virgilio Mattoli, Center for Materials Interfaces, Pontedera (PI).The research focuses on the development of a miniaturized wireless electronic system to be integrated in a multi-sensorized smart magnetic platform to be implanted in intestine after surgery for anastomotic healing and leakage evaluation. This includes also the possible integration of electronics with sensors and on the devices fabricated by other partners of the project. This open positionis financed by the European Commission within European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation program under the Transition Open project “Smart Implant for Magnetic Anastomotic Healing and Leakage Evaluation” (SMARTHEAL) - agreement No. 101214689. The SMARTHEAL project, conducted in collaboration with a consortium of SMEs and academic institutions, aims to design and manufacture a smart implant for anastomotic healing. This implant will enable real-time monitoring of the healing process and the detection of potential leakages through advanced sensing capabilities that track key indicators of inflammation and edema at the anastomosis site, specifically temperature, impedance, and pH. The sensors will be integrated with wireless electronics to transmit real-time data on healing biomarkers, with the implant’s accuracy validated in pre-clinical models.Within the team, your main responsibilities will be:Design and develop an embedded system hardware and software capable of wirelessly transmitting information from various sensors.Design of a wireless receiver station capable of receiving the information from the embedded system.Design of the interface software with particular emphasis on user experience.ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTSA PhD degree in Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunication or similar disciplines.Documented experience on the design of hardware and software microcontroller-based embedded systems, using commercial toolchains.Good knowledge in C, C++ and Python programming.Good knowledge in Printed Circuit Board fabrication and software tools.Good command in spoken and written English.Basic knowledge on hardware and electronic components.ADDITIONAL SKILLSBasic or advanced knowledge on STM32 microcontrollers.Basic knowledge on Near Field Communication (NFC) and wireless communication transceivers for embedded systems.Good knowledge on the .NET framework.Good communication skills.Good problem-solving attitude.High motivation to learn.Spirit of innovation and creativity.Good in time and priority management.Ability to work in a challenging and international environment.Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a highly interdisciplinary environment.COMPENSATION PACKAGEA yearly gross salary ranging between 36k€ and 40k€, which may include a bonus option depending on your role and contract.Private health care coverage depending on your role and contract.Candidates from abroad or Italian citizens who have carried scientific research activity permanently abroad and meet specific requirements, may be entitled to a deduction from taxable income of up to 90% from 6 to 13 years. Please submit your application using the online form and including a detailed CV, cover letter (outlining motivation, experience and qualifications) and contact details of 2 references.Application’s deadline: 01 July2025To discover more about life at IIT, visit the dedicated section here:https://www.iit.it/en/work-at-iitFill in the form below and send your application.I have read and accept the privacy policyI have read and I accept the terms and conditions
