Descrizione Lavoro

The University of Bologna is pleased to announce the opening of applications for PhD positions in Physics (2025-2026 cycle). While the program covers a wide range of topics in physics, we particularly encourage candidates interested in experimental particle physics, with a focus on the ATLAS experiment at CERN , to apply. The Bologna group has been an active member of the ATLAS collaboration since 2005, contributing to both detector development and data analysis . Our activities include the design and calibration of key detector systems (such as LUCID and the muon spectrometer), development of the pixel detector readout electronics, and support for the complex computing infrastructure essential for data collection and analysis. The group is also deeply involved in the ATLAS upgrades for the High-Luminosity LHC , including the development of LUCID-3, the construction of the new Inner Tracker (ITk), and the design of new muon chambers. On the analysis side, the group is known for its expertise in precision measurements of electroweak bosons and the top quark , as well as in searches for new physics beyond the Standard Model , including supersymmetry and exotic signatures. Recently, the group has also pioneered studies applying quantum information techniques to LHC data .Excellent applicants are encouraged to apply. Candidates should hold (or be about to complete) a Master’s degree in high-energy or nuclear physics, or a closely related field , and have relevant experience i(n hardware development, computing, or data analysis). The PhD program is fully international. Good knowledge of English is required ; knowledge of Italian is appreciated but not mandatory. For detailed information about the program and how to apply, please visit :J-18808-Ljbffr
