General Description of Role and Responsibilities
The Mechanical Supervisor oversees and coordinates all mechanical construction, installation, and maintenance activities on oil and gas facilities, including piping systems, pressure vessels, rotating and static equipment. The role ensures work is performed safely, to quality standards, and in accordance with project specifications and schedules.
Top Responsibilities
Supervise mechanical works including equipment installation, piping fabrication and erection, pump and compressor alignment, and valve installation.
Coordinate and manage mechanical crews, subcontractors, and third‑party vendors on site.
Review and interpret mechanical drawings, P&IDs, equipment datasheets, and installation procedures.
Plan daily and weekly mechanical activities to align with project schedule and priorities.
Coordinate with other disciplines (civil, electrical, instrumentation) to avoid clashes and delays.
Ensure materials, tools, and equipment are available and in good condition before jobs start.
Ensure all works comply with project specifications, industry codes (ASME, API), and quality standards.
Conduct visual checks, participate in mechanical walkdowns, and support punch list clearance.
Ensure proper torquing, alignment, leveling, and system cleanliness prior to testing and handover.
Enforce compliance with company HSE policies and procedures.
Conduct toolbox talks, risk assessments, and ensure safe work practices on site.
Stop unsafe work and intervene in hazardous conditions or behaviors.
Support mechanical completion, system testing (e.g., hydrotesting, flushing, leak tests), and pre‑commissioning.
Assist in preparation of test packs, redline drawings, and turnover dossiers.
Participate in system handover and readiness reviews.
Skills & Competencies
Strong knowledge of mechanical systems and oil & gas field equipment.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and mechanical installation plans.
Good leadership, communication, and coordination skills.
Familiarity with QA/QC documentation and mechanical punch list clearance.
Proficient in using mechanical tools and understanding construction sequencing.
Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge and Skills
Bachelor of Science Degree (BSc) in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.
Work experience of at least 10 years in the sought discipline after earning the BSc degree.
Minimum of 5 years of offshore experience in total, with at least the last 3–5 years spent on offshore projects.
Excellent spoken and written English, including proven ability to write specifications and reports.
