No Duties and Responsibilities Under general supervision of the Grounds Supervisor, perform routine grounds maintenance and repair duties on campus grounds; operate and maintain a variety of light and heavy power grounds equipment to perform grounds maintenance work; and service outdoor trash and recycling containers. This is an entry level position and the employee will receive additional training and experience before being eligible for the Grounds Worker II position.Duties & Responsibilities :Participate in a team, providing a variety of landscape maintenance duties including watering, snow removal, mowing, weeding, trimming, edging, renovating, and fertilizing lawnsRake leaves and / or clear debris from walks, fields, courts, parking lots, and other open areas; load, remove, dispose of trimmings and cuttings; pick-up trash and empty trash receptaclesPower washing of sidewalks, exterior walls, awnings, signage, trashcans, loading docks, and other exterior surfacesDig ditches, holes and trenches as necessaryOperate light Grounds equipment such as lawn mowers, leaf blowers, lawn edgers, and snow blowersAssist with exterior window cleaningEmpty trash and recycling containers on the exterior of campus buildingsAssist with moving furniture between buildings as well as between campusesPerform preventative maintenance to vehicles, equipment, and tools; make minor adjustments and repairs; report the need for major repairs and maintenanceUtilize proper safety precautions related to all work performedParticipate in training in the use of heavy equipment as well as classes related to landscaping to improve professional skills and become eligible for the Grounds Worker II positionDuring inclement weather assist with other duties as assigned. Such as assisting in building inspections and inclement weather preparedness.Perform related duties as requiredMinimum Education and / or Work ExperienceHigh school diploma or GED .One year of related experience in commercial landscaping maintenance; or willing to be trained.QualificationsAbility to use tools of the tradeAbility to carry materials to perform work functionsMust be able to lift up to 50 poundsMust be in good physical condition with the ability to assist with snow removal and other labor-intensive requestsMust be able to work irregular hours if needed for call-in response for snow removal or other campus emergenciesMust be able to work successfully with other trades to perform job dutiesMust have a valid driver’s license in good standing.Maintain the license while employed at Loyola.Computer SkillsBasic knowledge of Microsoft Outlook or equivalent email program, Excel and Word.Basic knowledge of a computerized maintenance management software is preferred.Supervisory Responsibilities No Required operation of university owned vehicles Yes Does this position require direct animal or patient contact?
