BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DIVISION
The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is the world’s largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide. The mission of WFP is to help the world achieve Zero Hunger in our lifetime. Every day WFP works worldwide to ensure that no child goes to bed hungry and that the poorest and most vulnerable – especially women and children – can access the nutritious food they need.
The Global Partner Countries Division (GPC) within the Partnership and Innovation Department (PI) supports organisation‑wide efforts to meet the resource needs at corporate and country levels through active engagement with governments and public‑sector institutions. Within GPC the Thematic Team (GPC‑T) advances the Changing Lives Agenda through systematic and strategic fundraising for thematic and development activities.
GENERAL INFORMATION

Working arrangement: In person or Remote
Duration of assignment: Four months
Expected Starting Date: 1 September 2025
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The appointed fellow will support the design and delivery of strategic communication and advocacy materials and initiatives related to WFP’s climate and resilience work with a specific focus on resource mobilisation and outreach in the lead‑up to COP30.

Fundraising and Advocacy Communications – Lead up to COP30

Support the development and implementation of a communications and advocacy plan aimed at engaging donors and partners.
Develop key messages, digital and print content and donor/partner‑facing materials aligned with WFP’s climate finance priorities.
Coordinate with internal divisions and external partners to ensure coherence and amplification of WFP’s messages across platforms.


Rollout of the Climate and Resilience Investment Pipeline

Support the communication and outreach strategy for the rollout of WFP’s Climate and Resilience Investment Pipeline.
Draft communication assets (briefs, donor decks, success stories, social media content) to promote the Pipeline and its country‑level projects.
Assist in organising and promoting donor briefings and outreach events linked to the Pipeline.


Support for Thematic Team Communications

Provide day‑to‑day communications support for GPC‑T, including preparation of materials for events, high‑level meetings and external publications.
Assist in drafting and editing content for newsletters, web stories, talking points and reports.
Liaise with WFP’s Communications team to ensure alignment with corporate communications standards and priorities.



STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Be a master’s student or a graduate in communication, public affairs, international relations or related fields from a recognised university.

Excellent written and spoken English is required (proficiency level C). Working knowledge of another official UN language (French, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Russian plus Portuguese) is an asset.
Prior experience in climate change, climate finance and engagement in COP processes is highly desirable. Strong knowledge of effective social media use for advocacy and outreach is essential.
TRAINING COMPONENTS
Throughout the assignment selected candidates will have access to an industry‑leading learning platform (weLearn). Depending on opportunities and availability of funds, candidates may participate in WFP workshops or seminars as appropriate.
LEARNING ELEMENTS
By the end of the assignment, the selected candidate should possess in‑depth knowledge of key stakeholders involved in international climate finance, including their priorities, positions and engagement strategies. They should also have demonstrated experience in designing and implementing fundraising and advocacy campaigns, ideally within the WFP context.
TYPE OF ASSIGNMENT
This opportunity is particularly well‑suited for students or recent graduates seeking practical experience in an international organisation. It offers valuable exposure to WFP’s operations and the chance to contribute meaningfully to its mission.
The selected candidate will receive IT equipment and training material; however financial compensation and medical coverage are not provided by WFP.
