Job summary
The Ethics and Compliance Automation Leader are tasked with advancing the integration of automation and emerging technologies within a robust Compliance Program across Europe. This position collaborates closely with the European E&C leadership team and affiliate functions to deliver coaching on automation strategies, identify potential synergies and gaps, and recommend appropriate solutions. Additionally, the role provides governance on automation‑related decisions and oversees pilot activities. Working in partnership with global Ethics and Compliance teams, the leader coordinates the implementation of automation pilots, whether for the European Hub or individual affiliates—to ensure these initiatives support effective affiliate risk management and are scalable. Regular engagement with both internal and external stakeholders is essential to align with ethics and compliance objectives and to remain informed about the latest technological advancements available in the market.
Main Accountability / responsibility
Develop and establish EU E&C automation governance strategy
Develop a strong understanding of the EU business environments, plans, and strategies, and then help colleagues to understand, account for, and mitigate risks in business practices through automation
Use the local Risk Assessment to drive Automation efforts, and guide affiliates through what is available in terms of technology and tools
Coordinate automation implementation roadmaps across EU (Tech@Lilly, E&C Operations, and Affiliates) and support funding decisions in alignment with EU strategy
Leverage EU E&C data analytics and tools for insights to ensure timely and effective risk management, coach others and lead Analytics standardization for EU.
Create and lead an engaged community of automation champions across EU affiliates and continuously exchange with the Global team to speed up innovation mindset as a regular capability for E&C.
Early‑stage participation in corporate automation initiatives and coordination for EU implementation
Foster an innovation culture in the EU to collaborate, generate, and prioritize new replicable ideas (internal + external innovation)
Develop and drive an automation capability‑building roadmap for EU E&C (capability + hire decision as a second phase)
Measure and communicate success (vs benchmarks)
Coordinate with other automation leaders within E&C and other functions (CAS, HR, Finance at min) and Global E&C SME to continuously learn, adapt, and grow by leveraging one another
Influence stakeholders: set vision, objectives, motivate, engage, communicate, and get results without direct team authority
Create and sustain a strong Communication plan for both results and best practice sharing
Professional Development
Keep up to date on trainings for professional development
Ensure myPM objectives are completed in line with company process
Understanding and adherence to all company policies and procedures
Qualifications
Core
Educational Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in any field
Desired
Juris Doctorate or equivalent professional experience preferred.
Knowledge and Experience
Knowledge and understanding of business and broad insight across the business functions, leadership & culture
Awareness of external environment and thinking outside the walls of Lilly
Ethics and Compliance experience at Lilly
Experience with simplification through AI
Minimum of 5 years of experience in pharmaceutical industry or, alternatively, in ethics & compliance field in another industry
Experience in Risk Management in Pharma
Knowledge of most used analytics tool for risk management.
Six Sigma or similar strategic project management experience.
