Electrical Engineer – Offshore (Energy Oil & Gas Project)
Report to the Jaket Engineering coordinator, the Electrical Engineer is responsible for the design, installation, testing, and maintenance of electrical systems and equipment used in oil and gas facilities. This includes ensuring safety, reliability, and compliance with regulatory and company standards across all project phases from design and construction to commissioning and operations.
Responsibilities
Design and engineering: Review and consent the design of electrical power distribution systems (LV, MV, HV) for oil and gas installations, review single-line diagrams, load lists, cable schedules, grounding and lighting layouts, approve selected electrical equipment, perform system studies (load flow, short circuit, arc flash, protection coordination) and ensure compliance with industry standards (IEC, NEC, IEEE, API, NEMA, ATEX).
Project execution & procurement: Review and approve vendor documents and technical specifications, prepare material requisitions, technical bid evaluations, and equipment datasheets, interface with other engineering disciplines, procurement, and construction teams for design integration.
Construction & commissioning: Supervise installation of electrical systems and ensure compliance, conduct inspection, testing, pre‑commissioning, participate in factory and site acceptance tests, troubleshoot issues during installation and commissioning.
Operations & maintenance: Support operations teams in troubleshooting and maintaining electrical systems, review condition monitoring data, participate in root cause analysis for failures, ensure asset integrity and optimize performance over lifecycle.
Skills & Competencies
In-depth knowledge of electrical design for oil & gas environments (onshore/offshore).
Familiarity with hazardous area classification and equipment selection.
Experience with electrical system modeling software (ETAP, SKM, DigSILENT).
Understanding of electrical protection systems, earthing, lighting and lightning protection.
Strong analytical, coordination, and communication skills.
Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge and Skills
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
Minimum five (5) years of experience in the discipline after graduation.
Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of offshore experience in total, with at least the last 35 years spent on offshore projects.
Excellent spoken and written English including proven ability to write reports.
