AWS Infrastructure Services (AIS) owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that keep the cloud running 24/7. You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, and operations managers to deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly unlimited capacity at the lowest possible cost to our customers.
Amazon is looking for an energetic, detail‑oriented individual to join our Data Center Engineering Operations Team in the Greater Milan Area. This committed group maintains the critical physical infrastructure that supports Amazon Web Services. The Data Center Chief Engineer (CE) is responsible for ensuring that all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center is operating at peak efficiency. This includes planned preventive maintenance, daily corrective work, and emergency response to emergent issues. The CE acts as the single focal point for all facility operations and supports Amazon within its owned and operated data centers.
Key Job Responsibilities

Oversee day‑to‑day operations and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment in data centers.
Assist in the design and build‑out of new facilities.
Serve as an escalation point for all facilities‑related issues within the data center region and work overtime as needed to support site stability.
Perform root‑cause analysis of equipment failures.
Troubleshoot and report facility and data‑center‑level events within internal SLAs.
Create and deploy new standard practices for Engineering Operations Technicians, Chief Engineers, and vendor support teams.
Provide training and guidance to Engineering Operations Technicians and assist in recruiting efforts.
Ensure all safety procedures are adhered to by vendor and Amazon staff.
Utilize internal change‑management systems to manage building workflows.
Facilitate MV/LV isolation for MV maintenance.
Provide weekly metric availability reporting.

Physical Requirements
• Work at heights and from ladders.• Perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, and repetitive movements.• Work in a noisy environment while wearing ear protection.
Working Location & Travel
The role will be based in the Greater Milan area, but flexibility is required to travel to other locations within the EMEA region as needed. A valid driving licence is required.
Work Schedule
100% onsite, 8 AM–5 PM Milan time, Monday to Friday. No shift work.
Working Language
Interviews and daily work will be conducted in English.
Basic Qualifications

Good verbal and written English communication skills.
Apprentice or trades certification in an Electrical field.
Demonstrated key electrical competencies (practice and theory).
Knowledge of mechanical systems, HVAC, and controls.
Ability to draft accurate support procedures, system documentation, and issue tracking entries.
Full ownership of technical issues.
Willingness to travel between data‑center sites and internationally if required.
Solid IT skills; experience with MS Office suite.

Preferred Qualifications

3+ years of experience in operations and on‑call support for data‑center facilities or mission‑critical plants.
Undergraduate degree in a technical field (EE, MechE, Industrial Engineering).
Project management experience.
