About the Role
AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. The Controls Engineer works on building automation systems within Amazon data centers, ensuring safety, security and low‑cost capacity for our customers.
You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, network, supply chain, security, operations and engineering professionals. You’ll collaborate across AWS to deliver high standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity.

Key Responsibilities

Understand electrical diagrams, control diagrams, building operations, control circuits and industrial HVAC systems.
Ascertain customer needs to develop scope and specifications.
Manage scope of work relative to site specifics and customer needs.
Coordinate with engineering to determine the scope of work relative to the design intent.
Read and interpret specifications and implement them in the work environment.
Develop control panel BOMs.
Develop ISA sheets for temperature, level, flow and pressure transmitters, control valves, positioners, analytical devices and other instrumentation.
Develop drawings for control panels, power distribution, junction boxes including general arrangement, internal layout, schematics and wire diagrams.
Develop logic diagrams in the International Automation format for PLCs and DCS.
Prepare cable routing plans and schedules.
Inspect, test and commission facility systems.
Work individually and as part of a team to develop new products, support existing products, test and evaluate equipment.
Provide technical assistance to internal customers.
Coordinate work internally within the department and externally with other departments to ensure on‑time completion of projects within budget.
Manage service contracts with vendors.
Be proficient in business English.

A Day in the Life
Controls Engineers begin the day with deployment efforts, on‑site site management and directing vendor installation/commissioning work. They coordinate with Operations teams for permits, manage service works, and ensure quality and on‑time delivery of tasks and projects.
About the Team
The Controls team is part of the Global Services group, focusing on building automation to support AWS data center operations. Team members bring a mix of construction, mechanical, electrical, and technology expertise to deliver sophisticated controls platforms and align them with broader business objectives.
Basic Qualifications

Ability to manage multiple concurrent stakeholder deliverables, requirements, and navigate difficult situations.
Experience with installation, configuration, or servicing of building controls products such as Siemens Apogee, Honeywell Building Controls, Trend Building Controls, Schneider Electric PowerLogic/Struxureware, Rockwell Automation FactoryTalk, Tridium Niagara, Eaton Foreseer, ABB Decathlon, Johnson Controls Metasys or similar.
B.S. in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, HVAC, or another related engineering degree, OR 5+ years of related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated understanding of engineering documentation, electrical diagrams and standard operating procedures.
Experience developing, justifying budgets, and managing financial performance.
Experience developing, managing, or validating performance specifications and requirements.
