UNHRD manages five (5) strategically located hub worldwide (Italy Panama Ghana Malaysia and UAE). It buys stores and transports emergency relief items and support equipment for the humanitarian community.The Field Team supports the humanitarian community in sudden emergencies in cargo receipt consolidation equipment installation and establishment and running of in- country logistics hubs. When not deployed the team works in the LAB which is a research and development unit that reviews tests and helps develop innovative and environment sustainable solutions and products for supply chain operations.Indeed the function of the LAB is closely linked to the UNHRD Field team : the ability to see the functionality of support equipment in the field the opportunity to identify gaps and evaluate potential improvements all contribute to taking the work of the Lab forward.The concept of the Field team is not new to UNHRD. Since its inception in 2000 UNHRD has deployed its Field Team to support emergency operations around the globe. In recent years the teams have been in Nepal Central America the Caribbean the Philippines Yemen countries affected by Ebola.The UNHRD Field Team a small team of trained professionals led by the incumbent is readily available for immediate deployment at the onset of an emergency to install staging areas and logistics bases support shipping train UN and government staff on warehousing and lead cargo aerial operations.In collaboration with humanitarian partners Lab activities have been gradually adapted to new humanitarian and global needs such as environment impact climate change and sustainability. UNHRD Lab Projects have been linked with new necessities on Climate Change programs and collaboration with specific Organizations academic research centers and the consultant will be asked to participate actively with them during the whole duration of the assignmentUnder the supervision of the UNHRD Network Coordinator and the technical supervision of the Head of the UNHRD LAB the consultant will have the following duties and responsibilities :LAB focal point on Environment Sustainability initiatives in coordination with humanitarian network working groups.Coordination with HRD network on all related sustainability mattersConfirmed availability for immediate deployment as part of the Field Team Whitin 24 / 48 hours as required. When deployed the consultant is to : A) Identify gaps and plan the response accordingly in coordination with RRT Leader and UNHRD Network Coordinator; B) Support UNHRD partners in light construction and set up of base camps logistics hubs etc; C)Lead the actions for maintenance dismantling demobilizing disposal reconditioning and re- packaging equipment at the end of an operationAct as LAB focal point on Environment Sustainability initiatives in coordination with humanitarian network working groups (JI for packaging waste reduction and management and Innovation Accelerator for innovative equipment related to waste and global warming impact mitigation).Coordinate with UNHRD network on Environment sustainability related matters If required assist UNHRD efforts on capacity building through training and transfer of knowledge to national staff government authorities and civil forces etc.;Participate in the design and organization of simulation trainings for new UNHRD Field Team members by coaching them in the field and / or at the base if required and provide supervisors and managers with valuable inputs on evaluation of staff capabilities;Write reports on trainings performed at duty station Identify critical equipment for Field Team staff and support the Lab on improvements if required.
