The position
Sympower is quickly scaling its flexible asset trading and optimization platform in Europe. Our portfolio and pipeline include sizable BESS projects, which we optimise across wholesale and ancillary services markets in different countries.
The Compliance Officer will be responsible for ensuring that our trading and operational activities in electricity markets meet all applicable regulatory requirements across the regions we operate. This role will work closely with trading, operations, regulatory, and technology teams to implement and monitor a robust compliance framework that enables rapid growth without compromising on standards.
This is a foundational role, offering a unique opportunity to build a comprehensive compliance framework from the ground up, with a strong focus on our operations.

What you will do

Regulatory compliance: ensure compliance with REMITII and other relevant regulation, and maintain accurate registrations with ACER, Nordpool and TSOs.
Monitoring and Oversight: Establish and maintain compliance monitoring tools and controls.
Collaborate with risk and operations teams to design controls for new market entries, products and services.
Advise on compliance considerations for entering new geographic markets and participating in new markets.
Work with cross‑border legal teams to harmonise compliance frameworks while accounting for local differences.
Reporting: Verify trade reporting, check trade logs and support regulatory audits.
Liaise with regulators, market operators and other external bodies during inquiries, audits or investigations.
Policy, training and governance: Update and enforce policies, deliver training programs to traders, operators and relevant staff on compliance obligations and market conduct.
Promote a culture of ethical behaviour, transparency and accountability across the organisation.

Experience and Education

3+ years’ experience in compliance within the energy trading sectors.
Strong understanding of BESS operations and market participation structures.
Experience with trade surveillance tools and compliance monitoring systems.
Excellent analytical, problem‑solving and communication skills.
Fluent written & spoken English; additional European languages a plus.

What you’ll need

Hands‑on, self‑starter DNA – you’re comfortable rolling up sleeves, shipping quick wins and iterating fast.
Deep knowledge of European short‑term power markets – DA, ID continuous, FCR, aFRR/mFRR, BRP imbalance settlement.
Regulatory fluency – working knowledge of REMITII, MiFID II Article 17 and RTS 6, EMIR trade reporting and Nordic and European TSO bidding & compliance rules.
Stakeholder skills – able to challenge traders and leadership constructively, brief executives crisply and translate quant speak into business language.
Experience in algorithmic trading compliance is a strong plus.
Previous experience within the Nordic markets / Nordpool is a plus.
Fluent Swedish or Finnish a plus.

Compensation
At Sympower, we believe in fair and transparent pay. Base pay within the range is ultimately determined by a candidate’s skills, expertise and competence. We have four geographic pay zones. For this role, most employees have the following base pay ranges as new hires in each zone:

Zone A: €36,000 – €58,000
Zone B: €42,000 – €68,640
Zone C: €53,000 – €80,000
Zone D: €58,000 – €94,160
