Descrizione Lavoro
IRCCS San Raffaele Scientific Institute in Milan, Italy, is looking for a highly motivated Bioinformatician to join the Liver Gene Therapy Unit, SR‑Tiget. The goal of our lab is to study liver dynamics during growth and homeostasis to devise permanent in‑vivo genetic engineering of hepatocytes for the treatment of metabolic diseases in pediatric patients. To this aim, we combine single‑cell, organoids, and multi‑omic analyses, including the latest‑generation spatial transcriptomics, together with advanced genetic engineering tools. The ERC‑funded project builds on our recent findings that most hepatocytes are quiescent during liver growth, and only a fraction of them generate most of the adult tissue (Milani, Starinieri et al., J Hepatol 2025 https://tinyurl.com/2x2nnf4r). We aim now to characterise molecular programmes of mouse and human proliferating and quiescent hepatocyte subsets and assess their susceptibility to in‑vivo lentiviral gene delivery and targeted genome editing.
Main responsibilities
Analysis of a variety of NGS datasets, including RNA‑Seq, scRNA‑Seq, ChIP‑seq, and spatial transcriptomics
Full integration within the SR‑TIGET Bioinformatics Core and the Center for Omics Sciences (COSR) at the San Raffaele Scientific Institute
Critical interpretation of the results
Discussion of project results at internal and external meetings
Who we are looking for
We are seeking a proactive and self‑driven candidate with a Ph.D. and scientific background in one or more of the following fields: Bioinformatics, Biotechnology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Biomedical Engineering.
The ideal candidate will have:
A solid foundation in Next‑Generation Sequencing (NGS) data analysis
Proven experience with established bioinformatic and biostatistical tools (e.g., R, Bioconductor)
Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and Bash
Interest in developing new computational methods to study the biology of hepatocytes
Experience with single‑cell and spatial transcriptomics analysis is a plus, though not required
Work details
Type of contract: renewable fixed‑term contract ("a tempo determinato")
Duration: 1 year
Place of work: IRCCS San Raffaele Hospital, Via Olgettina, number 60 - Milan (Italy)
