Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experiencedSenior BESS Engineerto lead the design, development, and integration of grid-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). The ideal candidate will have extensive technical expertise in renewable systems engineering and be responsible for driving projects from conceptual design through commissioning and operation. This role requires a deep understanding of BESS technologies, industry standards, and a proven ability to manage the technical aspects of equipment procurement and vendor selection.
Key Responsibilities
1- Design & Development
Lead the electrical design of BESS projects, including the development of conceptual layouts, single-line diagrams, load flow analysis, nad control schematics
2- Procurement & Vendor Management
Oversee and provide technical support for the procurement processes, ensuring alignment with project specifications and requirements
Develop detailed technical specifications and scopes of work for RFPs (Requests for Proposals) and tender documents
Evaluate vendor bids, perform techno-economic comparisons (benchmarking), and select suitable technologies and equipment suppliers
Negotiate with suppliers technical aspects of contracts, warranties, and supply terms with BESS suppliers, including batteries, inverters, and control systems
Collaborate with the commercial and legal teams to ensure all supply contracts meet technical, quality, and budgetary requirements
3- Standards & Compliance
Ensure all designs comply with applicable codes and standards, such as NEC, UL 9540, NFPA 855, IEEE 1547, and European local utilities / AHJ permitting requirements
4- Project Lifecycle Support
Provide technical assistance throughout the project lifecycle, including cost estimates, submittal reviews, RFI responses, and construction / commissioning support
5- Collaboration
Coordinate with cross-functional engineering teams (civil, structural, mechanical, SCADA / telecommunications) to develop complete design packages
6- Performance Analysis
Model system behavior for performance, lifecycle, and resiliency scenarios using industry tools.
Requirements
Experience : A minimum of3-5 years of professional experiencein energy storage, power systems, or related fields, with a specific focus on BESS design and integration.
Procurement Experience : Proven experience in the procurement cycle, including writing technical specifications, evaluating bids, and negotiating contracts for BESS or related capital equipment.
Education : Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related engineering discipline (Master’s degree preferred).
Technical Skills
Proficiency with BESS components, including inverters, BMS (Battery Management Systems), EMS (Energy Management Systems), and PCS (Power Conversion Systems)
Strong understanding of power systems engineering topics such as load flow, short circuit, and protective device coordination
Proficiency with CAD software (AutoCAD preferred) and modeling tools (e.g., PSCAD, ETAP)
Communication : Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with strong negotiation abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification is mandatory
Experience with microgrid design and control architectures
Ability to travel occasionally for site visits, client meetings, or field commissioning support.
