Job Opportunity: UNESCO Project AppointmentThe Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) is hiring a Project Appointment (G-5) role with an annual salary of approximately $46,800 USD. This is a one-year contract, open to both internal and external candidates, with an application deadline of 24 September 2025.ICTP provides training and resources to help researchers build long, productive careers while reducing the global “brain drain.” The advertised position is under the Natural Sciences Sector (SC) of UNESCO. The selected candidate will work closely with the ACCLIMATISE Project Scientific Principal Investigator to support financial, administrative, and project management activities.The post is classified as G-5 under the UN system, with an annual starting salary of €43,792 (approximately $46,800 USD) plus benefits. This position is not remote; the duty station is Trieste, Italy.Key ResponsibilitiesThe incumbent will manage both administrative and operational functions, ensuring smooth execution of the ACCLIMATISE project. Duties include:Financial Management and ReportingAct as the main contact with ICTP’s administrative and finance offices.Monitor project budgets and track expenditures.Ensure compliance with UNESCO’s financial and auditing rules.Prepare and submit financial statements on time.Serve as the key administrative contact with The Wellcome Trust.Prepare and submit accurate scientific and financial reports in line with donor requirements.Partner CoordinationLiaise with seven project partners.Follow up on outstanding financial or scientific reports.Maintain regular communication with all stakeholders.Meetings and EventsOrganize online and in-person meetings, including those held in Africa.Handle logistics for travel, accommodation, and visas.Hackathon ManagementPlan and facilitate annual hackathons for junior researchers.Oversee participant communications and logistics.Website Development and MaintenanceDesign, update, and maintain the ACCLIMATISE project website.Add interactive features to present project results (training will be provided).QualificationsEducation & CertificationsRequiredCompleted secondary, technical, or vocational school.University degree in administration, science, or a related field.ExperienceRequiredMinimum of five (5) years of experience in science administration or project management support.Experience in a scientific organization or educational institution.Background in active scientific research.Familiarity with website content management systems.Strong problem-solving and communication skills.Proven ability to collaborate in multicultural teams.Excellent organizational and time-management skills.High sense of accountability and service orientation.Proficiency in office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).LanguagesRequiredExcellent spoken and written English.Good knowledge of spoken and written French.Additional InformationSalary & BenefitsBenefits may include: 30 days annual leave, family allowance, medical insurance, pension plan, and other UN-standard entitlements.Contract Type & DurationContract type: Project Appointment.Duration: 1 year, with potential for renewal depending on performance and funding.Remote OptionThis role is not remote.
