Application Software Engineer – Dana Incorporated, Rivoli (TO)
Join Dana, a global leader in high‑performance powertrain and thermal management technologies, as an Application Software Engineer. The role focuses on developing application‑level software for electrified passenger‑car powertrains, primarily at the Dana Rivoli plant in Italy.
Position Summary
The successful candidate will support the development of application software for high‑performance passenger‑car applications. After initial training in Dana’s Rivoli (IT) and Lindley (UK) plants, the engineer will contribute to SW and calibration development for both vehicle and test rig, with the aim of delivering electrified powertrain systems equipped with Dana powershifting transmissions.
The position is based at the Rivoli Plant (IT) and reports directly to the Lead Engineer – Application Software. Additional on‑field activities may include cold/winter, hot/summer, and altitude testing.
Main Responsibilities

Deliver application software for electrified powertrains, focusing on transmission drivability, vehicle integration, and interfaces.
Act as the primary interface between OEMs and Dana teams for powertrain development, calibration, and vehicle validation.
Translate requirements from design to production and support development to commission, debug and optimize electrified powershifting transmission systems.
Coordinate validation, verification and test programs for embedded systems, ensuring compliance with safety requirements.
Develop hands‑on experience with vehicle system architectures and control system applications.
Participate in on‑field testing such as cold/winter, hot/summer, and altitude campaigns.

Job Position Requirements
Education: Master’s degree in Mechatronic, Mechanical or Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
Professional Background:

Minimum of 5 years (Senior) in software development and/or powertrain calibration.
Experience with vehicle testing and the ability to diagnose and resolve drivability issues or customer complaints.

Hard Skills

Algorithm design and implementation in a model‑based environment (Matlab/Simulink or ASCET‑SD).
Vehicle and/or test‑rig based development experience.
Knowledge of vehicle communication networks (CAN, CAN‑FD, J1939, XCP).
Understanding of functional safety and automated transmission fundamentals.
Transmission software delivery, testing, and engineering sign‑off.
Calibration tools experience, ideally CANape.
Understanding of electrical and mechanical system interactions.
Structured, logical problem‑solving approach.
Proficient in English and Italian.

Considered a Plus

Previous experience with dual‑clutch transmissions.
Deep understanding of mechatronic system interfaces.
Experience with calibration tools (CANape), protocol tools (CANalyzer) and diagnostic protocols (UDS).
