Responsibilities

May assist veterinarian to prepare for and during surgical procedures, including preparing surgery packs, scalpel blades, and suture material, monitoring a patient using an anesthetic machine.
May serve as scrubbed surgical assistant. Applies knowledge of preventive care, disease prevention, lifestyle risks, and veterinary care to provide individualized wellness counseling to clients.
Prepares and administers vaccinations, oral and topical medications to patient as prescribed by the veterinarian. Continuously informs medical staff of the changes in general condition of patient during surgical procedures.
Prepares and dispenses prescription medication according to veterinarian instructions. Applies knowledge of common topics to assist clients in solving common husbandry problems.
Assist the facility in obtaining local credentialing for surgical, anesthetic, dental, and diagnostic procedures as required by the patient load and manning of the clinic.

Requirements and Conditions of Employment

A one year probationary period may be required
Ability to work occasional Saturdays for special events
Satisfactorily complete a physical examination (to include all mandated immunizations to work in a veterinary environment) prior to entrance on duty.
Must not have an aversion to animals, blood, bodily fluids, animal tissues, strong odors, needles, or sharp instruments.
Physical Requirements (applicable to all levels): Ability to lift animals and supplies up to 40 pounds, and on occasion greater than 40 pounds with the help of others. Long periods of standing, restraining, kneeling, and reaching, etc.
Federal agencies may request information regarding COVID-19 vaccination status for workplace safety protocols.

Work experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the above duties which could have been gained at a pet store, farm work, animal shelter etc. Basic requirements include knowledge of approved restraint techniques of animals in accordance with the guidelines of the AVMA or equivalent; and knowledge of proper vaccines and syringe handling. Additional information

Area of Consideration
Local commuting area is defined as Naples, Italy and surrounding area within 50-mile radius; eligible if you live outside this area and can commute daily, relocate on your own, are an involuntarily separated military member, or are a military spouse relocating.

Salary Information
Salary is pro-rated based on a 40 hour work week and will be determined based on grade level qualified. Hourly salary is:

NF-02 $15.01ph to $15.25ph
NF-03 $15.30ph to $15.60ph ($31,931pa to $32,557pa)

Scheduling Information
Flexible / Intermittent; 0 guaranteed hours per week but may be scheduled to work between 0-40 hours per week based on mission needs. Work schedule to be determined after hire.
