University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) Europe seeks an Academic Advisor. The Academic Advisor reports to the Regional Director.SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDEEvaluate students' prior learning experience from both traditional and non-traditional sources to provide guidance to students pursuing UMGC Europe certificate and degree programsPrepare tentative evaluations based upon students' specific degree goals and provide general advising and curriculum planning to UMGC Europe studentsParticipate in outreach events and assist with marketingAssist students with registration and actively work with the site staff to improve processes and increase enrollmentsRelay academic policies and procedures in simple and accurate terms to students and education center personnelProduce accurate work under pressureUnderstand the needs of the non-traditional adult studentsBe able to synthesize detailed information from various sourcesDisplay an independent, cooperative, and professional attitude when interacting with internal and external clientsOther job-related duties as assignedREQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEBachelor's Degree from a U.S. regionally accredited institution or foreign degree equivalentExcellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills and a high level of analytical thinking for identifying and improving complex work projectsStrong attention to detail, quality customer service skills1 (one) year experience with customer service, counseling / advising, military students or higher educationAbility to research and solve problems while considering multiple factorsKnowledge of the military cultureSuccessful applicants must be able to pass background check and meet requirements for individual logistic support (ILS)Work on nights and weekends may be requiredPREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEA Master's DegreeExperience with PeopleSoft, GoArmyEd and SalesForceProficient knowledge of computers including MS Office, Google Online Services, and other computer-based resources to include the InternetPrevious academic advising or higher education experienceMinimum of two years availabilityWHO MAY APPLYApplicants with individual logístical support (ILS) preferred. Applicant must qualify for ILS. Criteria under which applicants qualify for ILS are : must serve the US Forces exclusively; are not stateless persons; are not ordinarily resident in the host nation; are not US / dual citizens with a Schengen country and / or willing to renounce Schengen citizenship if selected.
