What We Are Looking For
The CMCC European Institute on Economics and the Environment (EIEE) is looking for up to 5 accomplished researchers to join our team. We encourage applications from international scholars working on climate change and environmental issues, as well as scientists or senior scientists with experience in quantitative methods in environmental and economic disciplines. Candidates will join an international and interdisciplinary team in Milan or Venice, Italy, to strengthen research in our core topics and promote new research lines addressing environmental and climate change issues that matter to society.
About Us
CMCC Foundation is a cross‑cutting scientific research centre on climate change and its interactions with the environment, society, business and policymakers. Our work aims to stimulate sustainable growth, protect the environment and develop strategies for the adaptation and mitigation of climate change. CMCC pursues fundamental and applied science with utmost scientific integrity, prioritising data‑driven research and providing information that can support informed public debate and decision‑making processes. We invest in training all our talents and strive to create a workplace where everyone can excel.

Economic and social repercussions of the clean energy transition
Material and resource requirements of climate transition strategies
Physical and socio‑economic assessment of climate impacts and adaptation strategies
Modeling of biodiversity and socio‑economic interactions
Integrated land‑water‑energy sustainable strategies
Impacts and solutions of regional and local pollution
Robust decision making to design adaptation strategies

Researchers will integrate their skills with the Institute’s analytical capacity. We have established computational models of economic, environmental and climate systems, promoting a plurality of methodological and disciplinary approaches. We also have consolidated statistical, econometric and growing machine learning capabilities. Mid‑career researchers are expected to contribute to these research topics, advance our assessment methods, and proactively contribute to the Institute’s fundraising effort. Researchers will work on internally and externally funded research projects, help coordinate scientific activities and supervise post‑docs and PhD students.
Requirements
We are looking for motivated researchers with one of the following skills:

Computational modelling using economic frameworks (e.g., GAMS, Julia, or JuMP)
Multiscale land‑water‑energy modelling
Clean energy systems and markets
Geo‑spatial statistics and econometrics of climate and environmental hazards
Biodiversity modelling and valuation
Ex‑post/ex‑ante evaluation of climate and environmental policies
Robust optimisation and decision analysis under deep uncertainty

Depending on the profile, candidates should have the following qualifications:

5+ years of experience since PhD in economics, applied mathematics, engineering, physics or any related field
Fluency in English (Italian not required), good presentation and writing skills
Willingness to travel for project meetings and conferences
Ability to work in an interdisciplinary and diverse environment committed to high‑quality research
Experience in research project writing and management
